It’s one of the strategic entrances to the capital, combining a living area with offices and a more touristy zone. Soon, the Porte de la Villette will embark on its long transformation phase, set to be completed by 2028. It's a massive project for revitalizing and greening the area, much like what’s already happening at the Porte de Montreuil, which is expected to completely redesign the face of the roundabout overlooked by the périphérique highway.
The Ante-Chamber of Hell
La Villette is an incredibly nice place. It features a huge park of 55 hectares, that hosts exhibitions, concerts, festivals, shows, and basically everything that you can think of!;you need to have a sweet moment. However, just a few steps away, and sharing the same name, there’s a place that’s the exact opposite, bringing misery to the neighbors: Porte de la Villette (*dark suspense movie music plays*).

For several years now, this Parisian border between the capital and the suburbs has come to resemble a hostile traffic hub dominated by the ring road. It’s a constant ballet of vehicles flowing through this area that some residents consider dirty and dangerous.
A transformation long awaited
Fortunately for everyone, the situation is set to change very soon, thanks to a massive construction project whose first phase alone has a budget of 83 million euros. The plan includes a huge green space covering no less than 9 hectares that will replace the current roundabout. This space will be defined by “The Avenue of the Port.”te-de-la-Villette to the east, the bank of Paris with Emile-Reynaud Street to the north and the new route that will go under the ring road to connect with Felix-Faure Boulevard to the west», announced the architect of the project.

In total, over 1000 trees will be planted, complemented by biodiversity corridors. The car traffic will also be completely redefined to minimize noise and visual disturbances, as well as pollution. New pedestrian and cycling paths will enhance everything, aiming to strengthen the connection between the capital and the nearby suburbs, specifically Aubervilliers and Pantin. While the construction is set to finish in 2028, the first changes will appear earlier, with the creation of a new third place starting in 2026!
