This week, SNCF and the manufacturer Alstom presented to the public the brand new TGV M, the 5th generation of high-speed trains making its debut, and already dubbed the “train of the future.” These ultra-modern cars will provide more comfort for all passengers and are expected to be deployed in a few months on the most traveled line in France, serving the stations of Paris, Lyon, and Marseille.

More Accessible Trains

The first thing that stands out about these trains, and is honestly very close to our hearts, is the introduction of a brand new area entirely dedicated to people with reduced mobility, allowing them to act in complete autonomy. In this new carriage, 5 wheelchairs can be set up in front of tables, and

>an elevator has been installed, to help them move more easily on board the trains. A truly wonderful piece of news.

"ride the puff" in the Alps or surf the waves in Biarritz. The first big news is that they will now span two floors, and the second big news is that they will be renamed "bistros", just to add a touch of elegance.

On the ground floor, you'll find a grocery area, with self-service fridges, coffee machines, microwaves, and automatic checkouts, perfect for a quick purchase before heading back to your seat. The second floor will feature the traditional bar, which will have no less than 28 seats for chatting or enjoying the scenery alone.

Progressive Service

Although they were announced for the end of 2025, the first trains are actually expected to start running in early 2026, the year when 19 new trains are anticipated. An additional 15 more will be added every year thereafter, until we reach a total of 115 new trains within 7 or 8 years. A few lucky folks will get to enjoy the new "hammock" seats, the next-generation headrests, individual power outlets at every seat (even in second class), and even 8 bike spots!
