The Editor

You already know her from Snapchat, but soon you might also see her on Instagram: it's all about the "Friend Map" we're talking about. This feature lets you show where you are in real time and see where your friends are. Screenshots leaked on Threads by Alessandro Paluzzi show us a sneak peek of what this feature will look like, similar to Snapchat's. No need to worry if you prefer to stay hidden, there will be a ghost mode just like on the Snap Map. But unlike the Snap Map, the Friend Map will let you leave short messages or notes on your friends' locations. Get ready to try out this exciting new way to stay connected with your friends in real time and share your location with them!

It's not the first time that Instagram replicates similar features from other social media platforms. In 2016, they borrowed the use of stories from Snapchat. When TikTok emerged and became wildly successful with its short and quick videos, Instagram did the same by creating Reels.

A feature still in testing

The feature is still in the testing phase, so users don't have access to it yet. At the moment, no launch date has been announced, so you'll have to be patient before you can start stalking your friends on Instagram (we know you do it, no secrets between us).
