A preference for a mayor “without a label”
Could the far-right gain ground in the municipal elections, just a year before the next presidential election? That's definitely something to consider! 34% of French people from municipalities with more than 1,000 residents believe it would be “rather a good thing” to have an RN mayor, the party led by Jordan Bardella.
It is estimated that 25% of French people would support a mayor from the Republicans, and 23% would prefer an ecologist mayor. On the other hand, 39% of those surveyed lean more towards a mayor from civil society, who wouldn’t be affiliated with any political party.
e. If French citizens generally trust a mayor who is going to be a mostly nonpartisan mayor [...], what's quite striking is that the left no longer necessarily holds a monopoly on what can embody the defense of public services », says Jean-Daniel Lévy, deputy director of Toluna France, speaking to RTL.
Security as the main concern for the French
In fact, the study highlights the themes that French citizens are most concerned about and which will influence their voting choices. « The French are generally quite sensitive to issues that concern them because they worry about...In their daily lives », specifies Jean-Daniel Lévy. The safety of property and people comes first. Following that are health, municipal expenses, and local taxes.
