We thought we were done with these little critters, but it seems bedbugs are still making their presence known in the capital. “Following new reports,” the Cinémathèque française decided on Friday, November 28, 2025, to close four of its halls for a month.

This decision comes after a masterclass with actress Sigourney Weaver, held on November 7th, during which several people reportedly got bitten. “ We saw them running on the seats and clothes ,” said Madani Bendjellal, a spectator that day, to Le Parisien.

Bed bugs, a long-standing problem in the capital

Bed bugs had particularly panicked Paris and the whole of France in October 2023. Already, trains and even cinemas were affected by the invasion of these little creatures that sneak into fabrics. The infestation was addressed before the Paris 2024 Olympics.

But at the French Cinematheque, the issue seems to be resurfacing. The closure of several rooms in the establishment is aimed at ensuring a perfectly safe and comfortable environment for viewers. All the seats will be taken apart and then individually treated with dry steam at 180 degrees, several times, before undergoing systematic canine inspections validating each step

The exhibition spaces remain open to the public

While these four rooms — three dedicated to screenings and another one for activities — will be closed for several weeks, the other areas of the Cinematheque will remain accessible to visitors.

the general public. This is especially true for the part where the exhibition on Orson Welles is currently taking place, the Méliès Museum, the library, the educational spaces, the bookstore, and the restaurant.
