Less than a month to go before the kickoff of the 78th edition of the Cannes Film Festival, and the details of this beloved event for film enthusiasts are starting to roll in. One of the highlights is the opening ceremony, which will take place on Tuesday, May 13, 2025. While the film to be screened that evening hasn’t been announced yet, we already know that Laurent Lafitte will host the evening and that the iconic Mylène Farmer will make a special appearance for an exceptional show.
Mylène Farmer Shines at Cannes
The most discreet of French artists, whose public appearances are still quite rare, is all set to make a splash at the Cannes Film Festival according to exclusive information from Brut. The French singer has confirmed she will be taking the stage at the Palais des Festivals during the opening ceremony.

Her performance will be complemented by the screening of the latest film by Yann Gozlan, Dalloway – presented on May 15 during the Midnight Screening – for which the singer of “Libertine” and “Sans Contrefaçon” lent her voice. This time, the director of Bête noire and Un homme idéal delves into...on the highly sought-after question of artificial intelligence in a thriller way, one of the main characters is none other than a voice-acted AI by Mylène Farmer.
Stars galore for this 78th edition
This isn’t the first time that the French music star has made an appearance on the Croisette. In fact, Mylène Farmer took her first steps at the Cannes Film Festival during the 74th edition held in 2021, as part of the official jury. For now, the jury for this new 2025 edition hasn’t been revealed yet, but we already know that it will be presided over by the French actress Juliette Binoche (The Lovers on the Bridge, Three Colors, The English Patient), who takes over the reins after American filmmaker Barbie Greta Gerwig.

Other stars will surely be highly anticipated throughout the festival – which will take place from May 13 to 34 – such as American actress and star Scarlett Johansson, returning to Cannes to present her directorial debut, Eleanor the Great. We're also looking forward to the arrival of Denzel Washington for Highest 2 Lowest, the new work by Spike Lee; Tom Cruise for the final Mission Impossible (presented out of competition); and Robert De Niro, who will be honored at the 78th edition with the Palme d'or d'honneur.
