Rise of STIs among Young People
The aim of such a measure is to combat chlamydia and gonorrhea, which are experiencing a significant surge. Cases of gonorrhea have notably increased by 59% among men and 46% among women, from 2021 to 2023. If these infections are left untreated, they can lead to serious health problems such as pelvic infections, risks of infertility, or ectopic pregnancies. In the case of gonorrhea, the risk of HIV infection increases. There is an urgent need to raise awareness according to the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control.
Since 2024, the system « My Test IS."T » allows anyone under 26 to get tested for chlamydia, gonorrhea, syphilis, and hepatitis B for free in all French laboratories, without a prescription and at no cost. Just a quick reminder: only the use of condoms really protects against sexually transmitted infections and diseases.
