Metro: This Weekend, a Big Free Celebration for the Launch of Line 18

After months—or even years—of waiting, Line 18 is finally ready to open its doors to Ile-de-France commuters. And to celebrate the completion of one of its central stations, the Grand Projects Society is inviting you to a completely free celebration this Saturday, September 12th. Here's everything you need to know.

This autumn — that's in 3 days, much to the dismay of optimists — a first section of line 18 will open its doors between Massy–Palaiseau station and Christ de Saclay station. And it's precisely to celebrate the end of construction of the first one that the Society of Major Projects has decided to organize a festive and accessible event for all, by opening its doors to the general public for the first time.


An afternoon of celebration

This Saturday, September 12, from 2pm to 8pm with free admission, the Grand Paris Express invites you to the brand new Massy–Palaiseau station. On the program, artistic performances and live music entertainment, and more

also exclusive visits to the station before its official opening in a few months. This day will also be an opportunity to discover more details about the overall metro extension project, thanks to a dedicated exhibition. For food lovers, don't worry, various food stalls will be available on site to treat yourselves throughout the day with great local products.


A Much-Awaited Opening

As a reminder, this first section of line 18 is expected to open in December. This brand new Massy station will connect the metro to RER B and C, tram T12, Transilien V, and the TGV station already present on site. A second section between Massy–Palaiseau and Orly airport will open in 2027 and finally the last part linking Christ de Saclay to Versailles should be available around 2030. Spanning 35.2 km (including 14 above ground), crossing 13 municipalities and featuring 10 stations, this new line should make daily life easier for no fewer than 110,000 Île-de-France residents.
