France's first traditional Hindu temple opens its doors at the gates of Paris

It's an unprecedented project in the Île-de-France region that's about to be celebrated in the coming days: the opening of the first Mandir built according to the traditional rules of Hindu architecture in France. For the occasion, it's a true festival of Indian culture that's settling into the capital and its surroundings.

It's a brand new building far removed from Île-de-France architecture that has emerged in recent years in Bussy-Saint-Georges, in Seine-et-Marne. After months of construction, France's first traditional Mandir — a Hindu temple — is preparing to open its doors next September 6th. The culmination of a long-term project, accompanied by a series of celebrations.


A place of wonder and spirituality

It's a dual purpose behind the brand new BAPS Swaminarayan Hindu Mandir. On one hand, to serve as a traditional place of worship for anyone who wishes. On the other, to become a gateway to Hinduism, functioning as a cultural, educational and community center. Spanning an area of over 5,000m², from September 6th next, visitors

visitors will therefore have the chance to discover the Haveli, which will offer you a glimpse of Hindu heritage, traditions and values, as well as the Mandir, a true architectural masterpiece. Built in a blend of traditional Hindu craftsmanship (with for example stones carved and imported from India) and modern French techniques, it's a genuine technical feat that stands before us in all its splendor.


A Grand Opening Celebration

To properly celebrate the inauguration of this unique place of worship in France, the Mandir is pulling out all the stops, organizing festivities running from September 2 to 14. And for good reason—several thousand visitors are expected throughout the period, bringing together participants from no fewer than 38 countries, and approximately 3,000 volunteers. Events will be organized every day, including sacred rituals and processions taking place both in the capital and at the Mandir site. Unfortunately, the highlight of this cultural festival, an incredible boat parade along the Seine, took place this Thursday, September 3rd in the morning, but trust us, the rest is worth the trip too, during this festive period and beyond.
