On Thursday, November 27, 2025, SNCF presented its future projects for Ouigo line development, its affordable train service, at Gare de Lyon. And one thing is for sure, the railway company is not planning to do things halfway. In addition to wanting to increase traffic by 30%, they also announced the opening of new lines, and one of them has particularly caught our attention: a brand new Bordeaux-Lyon route.

A Little Revolution

Currently, when you want to travel from the South-East to the South-West by train, you need to arm yourself with a good dose of patience or logistics. That's because travelers have two options: TER trains that involve hours of slow travel, or a detour through Paris, which often means having to navigate the metro corridors with all your luggage.

is for changing stations.

Out of laziness, lack of money, or lack of time, many passengers tend to opt for flying, which is not great for our planet. That’s why SNCF decided to develop a brand-new line that will directly connect the City of Light and the port of the Moon. The line will pass through Massy TGV, Saint-Pierre-des-Corps, Poitiers, and Angoulême, with a travel time of about 5 hours.

Savings Ahead!

While the journey may not offer a huge time advantage compared to taking two TGVs with a connection in the capital, it will certainly allow you to enjoy the comfort of a direct trip and also make some nice savings. Indeed, thanks to Ouigo, tickets will be available starting at just 19 euros!uro;, and one ticket out of two < 30€. This could really make a difference for many people, especially considering the hundreds of euros that can sometimes be needed today.

In addition to this new line, the SNCF is excited to expand its services to the regions departing from Paris, with a new connection to the South-West, as well as an additional daily round trip to Rennes, Lyon, and Montpellier. These new measures are expected to begin to roll out in 2026, and we'll have to wait until mid-2027 to finally enjoy direct routes between Bordeaux and Lyon.
