Friday, March 7, 2025, the day before the International Women’s Rights Day, a march titled "radical feminist night march" was planned by the organization Assemblée féministe Paris-banlieue. The event was set to start from the Gare de l’Est at 6:30 PM, making its way to the Hôtel de Ville, aiming to claim “the rights and freedoms” that are threatened by a fascist state and the rise of the far-right, the organizers specified. However, on Wednesday, March 5, this march was prohibited by the police prefect, Laurent Nuñez, through an order that AFP was able to access.

Concerns about significant risks according to the police prefecture

Why such a decision? According to the police prefect, the potential for «public order disturbances » is too great. « There is a serious risk that the message from the activists of Samidou and Urgence Palestine [who are calling for people to join the march, editor's note] could offend the Jewish community and trigger disturbances during the declared gathering », states the prefectural order. « There is a significant risk that hateful and discriminatory comments could be made », he continues.

A possible infiltration of the far right at the March 8 demonstration?

Another demonstration is planned in Paris on Saturday, March 8, starting from the Place de la République at 2 PM, to celebrate the International Women's Rights Day. Driven by various associations, trade unions, and collectives such as Nous Toutes Paris Nord, this feminist strike is a call to free ourselves "from work, domestic tasks, and consumption" to take to the streets and denounce injustices and inequalities between genders. The far-right collective Némésis plans to try to march alongside the demonstration. Feminist organizations oppose this: "We will not accept marching with racist and extremist groups.Shareholders who instrumentalize the struggles  », indicates the collective Nous Toutes at Street Press. For now, the prefecture has not yet made a statement regarding the management of this demonstration.
