Celtic Crosses, slogans « Europe, youth, revolution » or « Sébastien, present», black clothing, covered faces, more or less concealed Nazi tattoos… After the rally on May 10, 2025, the «Committee of May 9 » (C9M), a radical far-right group, is planning, as it has every year for over thirty years, a new demonstration in Paris this Saturday, May 9, 2026 — in tribute to Sébastien Deyzieu but also to Quentin Deranque, two far-right figures who passed away in 1994 and 2026. The meeting point, set for 3 PM at Port-Royal station, is contested by Antifascist Action Paris Suburbs, which is planning a counter-demonstration in the same area.
A growing number of participants in the far-right demonstration
“Whatever happens, the C9M will not march in peace” says the Anti-Fascist Action Paris Suburbs in a statement. The organization assures that whatever happens, “we will prevent, by all means, this march from taking place”.
Last year, the Paris police prefecture had vaguely attempted to ban the C9M gathering — just like the one from the Anti-Fascist Action — 1000 and 1200 far-right supporters paraded through the streets of Paris in 2025 — a record! Some antifascist demonstrators who had even shown up were violently pushed back by the police.
The uncertainty about the situation on Saturday, May 9, 2026
This year, the fear of clashes is palpable., if the two demonstrations can take place at the same time, it gets a bit tricky. For now, the police prefecture has not commented on the matter. However, even if the prefecture opposes these gatherings, it’s possible that the same situation as in 2025 might happen, and that the administrative court may eventually decide to allow them, or only permit one of the two.
