It has been two weeks now since the new mayor of the capital took office on March 29. After a first official visit to the offices of the Public Health Department of the City to inaugurate the 2nd edition of Mental Health Month, highlighting his commitment to this issue, he is excited to launch his first battles. On the agenda: protecting people on the streets, the housing crisis, after-school programs, and the future of the Parc des Princes, especially its potential sale to PSG.

A Roof for Everyone

This was one of the key issues of Emmanuel Grégoire's campaign: the housing crisis. And it seems the mayor is determined not to break his promises, by tackling the...

Jumping straight to the heart of the matter! On one side, he wants to implement a simple plan: « zero children on the street » by winter 2026-2027. The mayor aims to deeply strengthen the supply of social housing, by doubling the number of available spots provided by the City (from 4,500 to 7,000). Meanwhile, he also wants to open around ten new temporary centers. On the housing side, in addition to the 60,000 new public housing units planned by the end of his term, Grégoire should ease the private market: increasing the rate of the new tax on vacant residential units, encouraging the ban on professional short-term rentals, and maintaining rent control measures.

A 360° Turn on the Issue of Violence in After-School Programs

If these initial measures make Grégoire the worthy successor to Anne Hidalgo, for the next two points, however, the new mayor is giving a wink to his predecessor and hopes to make a complete turnaround. While the former mayor let the issue of violence in after-school programs drag on, the new one is determined to take action, and we thank him for it, with a genuine action plan to fight against violence towards children. Reporting chains, immediate suspensions, families informed directly, mandatory training, a ban on isolation with only one adult, and the establishment of children's houses—he's leaving nothing to chance to urgently tackle this priority issue.

The Issue of the Parc des Princes

Finally, the last project at the start of this term, the issue of the Parc des Princes, and its potential sale. Once again, Grégoire expresses his intention not to follow in Hidalgo's footsteps, and was seen alongside Nasser Al-Khelaïfi, president of PSG, during the club's first match after his election. The president had cut all ties with the former mayor when she loudly declared her refusal to sell the legendary stadium. Our new mayor, for his part, intends to look into all possibilities before making a decision.
