Are insecurity and delinquency becoming more significant in Île-de-France? This is suggested by the early figures from the 2025 report, published on January 29, 2026, by the Ministry of the Interior's statistical service (SSMSI). On both the regional and national levels, while thefts are seeing a slight decrease, violence is on the rise.

Fewer burglaries in Paris and across the country
Overall, thefts of all kinds have saw a slight decrease in 2025. According to data from the police, armed thefts have decreased by 7%, burglaries by 3%, vehicle thefts by 9%, and thefts of vehicle accessories by 1%. These reductions should be taken with a grain of salt since there are still 8,000 armed thefts, 49,300 violent thefts without a weapon, and 212,000 burglaries on a national scale.
In the Île-de-France region, the numbers are a bit more striking: we see a decrease in burglaries by 15.4% within the capital and 14.7% in the surrounding area.
Sexual violenceIt's on the rise
What’s even more concerning is that violence against people is experiencing significant increases. Homicide attempts (a total of 4,501) have risen by 5%, as well as physical violence—both domestic and non-domestic—which amounts to 473,000. A rare joyous fact is that in Paris, these violent incidents have decreased by 6.5% and by 3.2% in the metropolitan area.
However, an unprecedented increase in sexual violence has been observed across the country: 132,300 incidents were recorded in 2025, representing an 8% increase, including rapes and attempted rapes, which have risen by 9% (50,400 in total) compared to the previous year. Scams and payment frauds have also surged dramatically: 448,000 of these were recorded in 2025.
