The Petit Larousse illustré dictionary has just revealed the new terms that will be added starting in 2027. Among them, you'll find Gen Z slang, as well as some classic Marseille terms, and words that reflect the evolution of society (especially with the rise of artificial intelligence).

New edition of the dictionary, new terms added, that's the rule. For 2027, no less than 150 words are making their way into the famous book. And this time, it's youth language that takes the spotlight. You'll find terms like "dinguerie", "c'est carré", "crush", and "boomer."Marseille is also shining in this new edition. Typical expressions from the city join the dictionary, like "ma gâtée", "tarpon" (a lot), or "dégun" (nobody).

The dictionary as a mirror of our societies
On the side of other added terms, they reflect the societal evolution and the rise of certain trends. In the medical field, the terms «neuroatypical» and «neurodivergent» are making their entrance, showcasing a growing recognition and support for neurological disorders.
This new edition also illustrates the issues plaguing our societies with the addition of terms like «chemical submission», «masculinism», «incel», or even «coercive control».
