Every year, for May 1st, the trade union coalition of Paris organizes a huge demonstration in the streets of the capital, gathering between 20,000 and 100,000 people (depending on whether you ask the police or the organizers, you know how it goes). And 2026 is no exception. As the route has just been revealed, the Paris police prefecture has also announced traffic and parking restrictions to ensure the smooth running of the event!
A Day of Struggle
It’s been 137 years now that every year, May 1st is an opportunity for many workers to gather and fight for their rights. This custom is a bit more recent than the one where people gift lily of the valley (which dates back...
and it is at the Renaissance), but, you must agree, a little more important too. And this year again, everyone who wishes to is invited to join the march to protest. Symbolically, it will start from République (aka the heart of Parisian demonstrations) at 2 PM. The protesters will then head up the entire Boulevard Voltaire passing through Place Léon Blum, and all the way to Place de la Nation, the final destination of the gathering.c à quelle h la manif du 1er mai à Paris ?

Significant Traffic Restrictions
To ensure everything goes smoothly, certain roads in the affected districts (specifically the 10th, 11th, and 12th) will be closed to traffic or parking. On the traffic side, it's pretty straightforward: the boulevard Voltaire will be completely inaccessible. As for parking, it gets a bit tricky, as no fewer than 59 spots, dead ends, streets, and other neighborhoods will be partially or completely affected by the ban on parking motor vehicles, starting from April 30, 2026, at 10:00 PM until May 1, 2026, at 8:00 PM. It's quite a long list, so we won’t make the mistake of copying it here, but you can find it in its entirety on the police prefecture's website, right here. And in the meantime, whether you're planning to join the protest, buy some lily of the valley, or head off far from Paris, have a wonderful long weekend everyone!
