The Paris Carnival and the Women's Carnival will not take place in 2026

It was the most festive and colorful event that brought life to the beginning of March every year: since its return in 1998 after a long absence, the Carnival of Paris filled the streets of the capital for a day. A time that has now passed, as in 2026, the famous masked parade will not take place. The news was announced in a statement published on October 23, 2025, by the association Droit à la Culture.

An event canceled due to lack of financial resources

If the Paris Carnival is canceled, the Women's Carnival — another major cultural event, created in 2008 — is also forced not to take place this year. “Dear participants, friends of the Paris Carnival and the Women's Carnival, it is with deep regret that I announce [...] the decision to end both the Paris Carnival and the Women's Carnival,” laments Ilham Mouhid, president of both events. The reason for this cancellation? A lack of human resources and funding. Inability to ensure the safety of participants, lack of financing, lack of volunteers.”, she adds.le. 


A petition to allow the Paris Carnival to take place in 2026

To try to keep both carnivals alive, an online petition has been launched. It calls out to the city hall of Paris.s calls for the preservation of this historical tradition, which strengthens the place of culture in society and fosters a spirit of celebration and sharing. « Imagine the disappointment of the thousands of participants and spectators whose expectations would be betrayed. This would impact not only the local diaspora, but also tourism, one of the cornerstones of the Parisian economy », she points out. À the moment, only 56 signatories have contributed.
