Since late June, summer work has been in full swing on the Ile-de-France public transport network. Good news though—it's almost wrapped up! We have just one last little metro closure to tackle—not counting the ones already underway, of course…

Taking the metro is never easy, between strikes, construction work, and occasional delays. In summer, it becomes a real nightmare for all those who have the misfortune of having to stay in the capital or can't work from home. Fortunately, here at Bonbon, we look on the bright side, and we think that all of this is to give us a brand new metro, and above all extremely efficient when we go back to school. In the meantime, you have one small hurdle to face: the closure of line 8.


A tough week on the purple line

To be specific, the line that many Parisians consider the worst in Paris will be closed between the stations Balard and Concorde, from August 20 to 27 inclusive. None of the

nine stations (Balard, Lourmel, Boucicaut, Félix Faure, Commerce, La Motte-Picquet-Grenelle, École Militaire, La Tour-Maubourg and Invalides) will not be served, connections will not be available, and Concorde will be temporarily and honorarily crowned as terminus. Throughout the entire duration of these modernization works — which are designed to prepare the line for the upcoming arrival of MF19 trains — a replacement bus service will be put in place, and you can always switch to the adjacent lines.


Another Line in Hot Water

However, even if this closure is only partial and lasts just one week, don't get too excited just yet, because Line 8 is currently facing a much bigger project, and especially a much more disruptive one. Indeed, since July 22nd, the République station is completely closed to the public on Line 8, and this until April 2027 ! This major disruption is part of a major renovation project for the complete overhaul of the station, which involves the successive closure of all lines one by one until… 2034 ! So, for this summer, take heart, things will be fine, and for the almost decade to come, we wish you all the best of luck !
