It's the end of an era that's coming into view. Indeed, the blue card , the number 1 payment method in France, is set to evolve once again, thanks to the emergence of the biometric card. This is an important change that could make life much easier for many of us, especially for the most forgetful… Here’s the scoop.


A new milestone reached

Throughout history, humans have bartered to survive. Over the years, however, the medium of exchange has greatly evolved, moving from a sheep to a coin, from a coin to a note, and from a note to a blue card. It's a tool we can no longer do without.everyday, today without contact and even dematerialized on a smartphone for many of us. And it seems that progress can't be stopped, as the physical card is undergoing a new evolution. Indeed, for the past few months, the biometric card has been appearing on the market, completely eliminating the 4-digit code system, which is still necessary today for purchases over €50 even with contactless.


An Ultra-Secure System

So, what exactly is the biometric card? It’s quite simple! It's a system that allows you to pay with your card, no matter the amount, simply by validating with your fingerprint. The only requirement for payment is to have a finger! And let's be honest, you're much less likely to lose a finger than forget your credit card code. To make this work, a built-in sensor will be placed on the card, where a light press for a few seconds will unlock your payment. This technology is already being used by some banks, like BNP with their biometric Visa card (currently for a fee), which could soon be available to all consumers, making our lives so much easier!
