The drop in temperatures has been quite a shock. Very shocking! Since Monday, September 23, 2025, Parisians have had no choice: sweaters are back in style, along with scarves and thicker shoes to brave the chill outside. The weather has seemed quite paradoxical when you consider that just last Friday, September 19, nearly 30°C was still being felt. And if this cold snap has been so biting, it's because it has broken all records: it's been nearly 40 years since such temperatures have been felt in the capital during the month of September.

Like a Breath of 1986

Wednesday, September 24, 2025, the thermometer didn’t rise above 10.8°C. That’s quite a chilly temperature, especially since we’ve just stepped out of summer and into autumn. The last time it was this cold in Paris in September was September 16, 1986, when it hit 10.3°C, as confirmed by data from Météo France.

Fourth Coldest Day in History

And that's not the only record this day set! In fact, it ranks fourth among the coldest days in September in Paris since meteorological data has been recorded by ....

Montsouris station in the 1870s. The real record is held by the year 1919, when 9.9°C was recorded on September 28.

Don't worry, this cool spell was short-lived: starting this weekend, the sun is expected to make a comeback, and temperatures should rise to hover between 17 and 18°C, possibly even reaching 20°C next week!
