We all know that cycling in the capital has plenty of advantages — starting with time saved and a wonderful sense of freedom — but also quite a few drawbacks. We can point to the often disastrous state of cycle paths and the far too many dangers they pose. Yet it seems that this bike path located just outside the capital is the very definition of perfection…

Cycling, the king of Île-de-France

It's literally at the gates of the capital, on Avenue de Paris, that you'll find this little slice of paradise. A few weeks ago, during the Regional Cycling Meetings, the Val-de-Marne department

-Marne received the award for best cycling infrastructure in Île-de-France, for the bidirectional path installed between Saint-Mandé and Château de Vincennes. A route that demonstrates the commitment of both towns to make cycling more pleasant and safer. It's worth noting that in 2023, the department decided to double its investments by 2030, and to expand the network from 340 km to 450 km. A commitment praised by Grégoire de Lasteyrie, delegate president for Transport at the Region, at the award ceremony.

The height of bike lane perfection

But so why does this path, whose first section was built between October 2024 and November 2025, stand out so much? It's quite simple really, it offers an almost unique experience for cyclists coming from the capital and its surrounding areas. A completely smooth surface, without the slightest imperfection, with two wide lanes so that riders and their bikes can pass each other without any trouble. A light color that makes it stand out on the road. But also and most importantly a 50-centimeter buffer zone separating it from parking spaces, to avoid any risk of getting hit by a car door unexpectedly. The second phase of the project is currently underwayrace, and should be delivered by 2027. And we can't wait to discover it all!
