A source of pride, if not a national symbol, since it was added to the UNESCO World Heritage list in 2022, the baguette is the real staple of our meals. With their finely-tuned palates, the French are well-equipped to judge the quality of bread. With 1360 bakeries counted in the capital in 2022, there’s no doubt that Parisians truly shine as bread experts. And on March 27th, they’ll get to showcase their tasting talents as judges to elect the best baguette of 2025!

Four Parisian Jurors Drawn at Random
How does it work? It's really simple: if you are available all afternoon on Thursday, March 27, 2025, are an adult, and have no food intolerances or allergies, you can participate in the contest that might just select you to become a juror for the Grand Prix de la Baguette. To do this, just head over to the City of Paris website and answer a question. Four people will be drawn at random.

A contest that's been around for over 30 years
It was back in 1994 that the City of Paris launched this contest. A total of 200 artisan bakers participate, all hoping to earn the title of the best baguette in the capital and to supply the Élysée for a whole year. Appearance, taste, baking, crumb, and aeration… every criterion is thoroughly examined by a jury of 12 people. Once again this year, it includes professionals from the bakery world, local elected officials, and journalists, such as Xavier Netry, winner of the Grand Prix de la baguette 2024, Nicolas Bonnet Oulaldj, deputy to the Mayor of Paris, and Sophie Giagnoni, editor-in-chief of the magazine C’est Meilleur Quand C’est Bon.
