The Editor

Imagine getting your hands on a painting that hung in the Hemingway bar at the Ritz for 30 years, a phonograph from the early 20th century, a typewriter gifted by Kate Moss herself, or even the shaker that Colin Field, the most renowned mixologist in the world, used to craft his signature cocktails with finesse. From February 29th to March 13th, a delightful collection of rare and unique items amassed by the legendary bartender who recently retired from the prestigious hotel on Place Vendôme, was up for auction at Christie's.

Colin Field, the ultimate barman

He is a legend in the world of mixology. In June 2023, at the age of 62, Colin Field bid farewell to his role as a bartender at the Hemingway bar after nearly three decades of dedicated service. Joining the Ritz on August 25, 1994, he confesses to have been "married to [his] work" with Vanity Fair, breathing new life into this once struggling bar and turning it into the iconic establishment it is today. Among his clientele? Kate Moss, Pierce Brosnan, and even Daniel Craig. The bartender who has been voted "best bartender in the world" three times by Forbes magazine has been leading the way at the bar for almost 30 years, making sure all 25 seats are always filled with happy customers enjoying his special concoctions. 🍹🌟 #bestbartenderintheworld #cheers

Slow Down Gently

Now, he admits wanting to slow down the frantic pace in which he has always lived: " I need to take a moment to reflect on the meaning I want to give to this end of my career. I wouldn't want to ruin everything I've done by accepting things that don't suit me", he confides to ./a-table-avec-colin-field" target="_blank">Vanity Fair. Permanently give up the shaker? That's not in the plans. While the mixologist says he plans to open a guesthouse in the countryside in AirMail magazine, he is also a permanent guest at the bar of Maison Proust every Friday. So let's be reassured, here or elsewhere, the world will not stop enjoying cocktails.
