It’s one of the deadliest events in French history. On November 13, 2015, 130 people lost their lives to the bullets of jihadist terrorists in Paris and Seine-Saint-Denis. They left behind several hundred injured, forever marked survivors, and grieving families. Nine years after these attacks, Paris continues to honor the memory of its victims.

Tributes Across the Capital

Bataclan, Stade de France, cafes and restaurants in the 10th and 11th... So many places scarred by the terrorist attacks that took place on that horrific night. As every year, Paris organizes commemorations in memory of the victims, and this Wednesday, November 13, 2024, is no exception.

A special moment of remembrance took place this Wednesday morning in front of the La Bonne Bière bar on Faubourg-du-Temple street, with the presence of Anne Hidalgo and Philippe Duperron, president of the 13Onze15 Fraternity-Truth association, whose son Thomas was killed at the Bataclan that night.

Another ceremony is also scheduled “in the morning ” according to the municipality's website, in front of the 11th district town hall, which will be exceptionally closed until 2 PM. Organized by victim associations, this ceremony “will be marked by sobriety, dignity, and reflection.

133 victims counted to this day

While 130 people lost their lives on the night of November 13 to 14, 2015, we now count 133 victims of this tragedy: since 2015, three survivors of the attacks have taken their own lives. The most recent, Fred Dewilde, a cartoonist and survivor of the Bataclan, took his life in May 2024. On franceinfo, Arthur Dénouveaux, president of the victims' association Life for Paris, stated: « terrorism is a poison that also kills over time».

A place to honor and mourn in 2025

In early 2022, the City Hall of Paris announced the opening of a garden.mémorial for 2025, to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the attacks. Under construction since early September at Place Saint-Gervais, in the 4th arrondissement, this garden has been designed as a space of peace and remembrance for the families of the victims, the survivors, and any Parisians who wish to visit.

A neutral and central location, Saint-Gervais Square isn’t one of the sites affected by the attacks. However, the various places targeted on the evening of November 13 will be represented in the garden, with statuettes bearing the names of the 130 deceased individuals.
