The Editor

Since 1980, the Association for the Protection of Wild Animals (ASPAS) has been steadfastly challenging any decisions that would harm wildlife and natural habitats. To effectively combat these threats, they have been purchasing vast territories since 2010 to protect them from destruction or exploitation, earning them the label of Wildlife Sanctuary® and promoting optimal ecosystem conservation. By doing so, the association allows these natural spaces to self-manage and shields them from the damage caused by humans. While visitors and hikers are still welcome, activities such as hunting, fishing, and logging are strictly prohibited. Volunteers ensure that these natural areas are respected.

Protected natural spaces all over France

In December 2023, ASPAS already had over 1224 hectares of natural spaces in France labeled as Wildlife Reserve®,such as the wildlife reserve of Grand Barry and the ones of Deux Lacs in Drôme.Created by the association itself, this label corresponds to the highest level of nature protection in France.

ASPAS doesn't receive any public subsidies: it chooses to be apolitical and 100% independent in order to maintain total freedom of action. An political and financial independence that is rather rare in the French nature protection association landscape, but fortunately, the association can survive thanks to donations from individuals and foundations. You can support the association by making a monetary donation or a bequest, or by becoming a member!
