On Wednesday, July 10, the Paris City Council decided to tackle a big issue. Construction everywhere? No. Are the bike lanes still too dangerous? Not that either. Lack of space in schools? Not that either. Yesterday, the Paris city hall decided to finally address the issue of graffiti, which are far too numerous in the streets. Well, we're not sure if it's really a priority, but why not. Every year, cleaning the storefronts of shops, which is normally the responsibility of the owner, costs the City of Paris over 6 million euros. An astronomical sum that the city hall is trying to reduce by all means. And for that, the Paris City Council has decided to subsidize two associations, which will be in charge of replacing the graffiti... with graffiti. So, yes, it will be about more artistic murals that are much more aesthetic and elaborate than some of the messages we sometimes see in the streets of Paris, but still, we find the concept pretty funny.

There are no small savings

To successfully carry out this new project, the city will therefore distribute 41,600 euros between the two associations of merchants. Their mission will be to embellish the public space, while dissuading troublemakers and their spray cans. The main goal is, of course, to allow the municipality to save money on cleaning. If, in passing, it can slightly enhance Paris's reputation internationally, that is, the one of a dirty and unhygienic city, then we can only encourage such a project. And if it allows all Parisians to have free access to works of art, then, truly, we can only applaud.
