Since 2008, L'International has become a must-visit gathering place for all the key players in the Parisian alternative scene. Its basement has hosted thousands of local and international bands and welcomed thousands of music lovers on the hunt for new sounds… In short, this legendary venue is full of memories galore and hopes to create many more.
Unfortunately, the survival of the venue is no longer guaranteed. After a sudden closure last August due to major renovations and a halt in construction, L'International is at risk of closing its doors for good. We'll explain the situation and, most importantly, let you know how you can help!
A beloved Parisian venue in danger
In a press release published on February 4, 2025, L'International sounds the alarm. But to fully understand, let’s take a step back in time. In January 2024, the L'Inter team made the tragic discovery of a serious construction flaw in the ground floor and thus in the foundations...
at the bottom of the famous cellar. The place had closed its doors for everyone's safety and continued its program outside the walls with a series of concerts in 14 different Parisian spaces. The ground floor was finally able to reopen to the public in April – after temporary reinforcement works – but this improvised setup couldn't last too long. After all, the soul of the International is truly its cellar!Voir cette publication sur Instagram
Since August 11th, L’Inter has been closed and its renovations are at a standstill. And it’s no surprise: their request for assistance from the National Center for Music (CNM) was denied. A major setback for L’Inter, which is now appealing to show the importance of small venues for the music ecosystem in Paris and for the professional development of local and national artists.
How to Help L’International?
At the moment, L’International simply doesn’t have the funds needed to complete the renovations. The possibility of a permanent closure has been brought up. But before throwing in the towel, the venue is determined to give it their all! Starting February 7th, L’International will reopen its ground floor – even though it's still for an indefinite period. No concerts are planned unfortunately, as the cellar remains unusable, but all ideas are welcome!
