Originally announced for September 2025, we actually have to wait a little longer than expected. But as they say, good things come to those who wait, starting this Monday, May 11th, the latest creation by JR, a street artist known for his grandiose projects around the world, began its installation. In just a few days, the Pont Neuf will unveil a completely new look, and we can't wait to see it! However, in the meantime, the Parisian landmark will be completely inaccessible, which may cause a bit of trouble for some.
A Much-Awaited Tribute
In 1985, the artist duo Christo and Jeanne-Claude wrapped the Pont Neuf in an artistic tribute...

For this occasion (and with a few months of delay unfortunately), the French artist JR, known for his monumental collages, has decided to share his version of this totally crazy project by wrapping one of the most beautiful bridges in Paris, as well as one of the most famous and the oldest. On the menu: a huge immersive cave in the open air, featuring optical illusions, inflatable structures, soundscapes, and light displays.
A work that reveals itself little by little
Starting today, The Cave of Pont Neuf is finally coming to life, as the installation began this Monday, May 11, and is expected to last for a few weeks, before the work is fully unveiled, and most importantly, 100% free and accessible to everyone, from June 6 to 28.
A gigantic optical illusion that will stretch from one side of the Seine to the other, offering us a soundtrack imagined by Thomas Bangalter, one half of Daft Punk.Ça va être dur de circuler avec le Pont-Neuf fermé et celui des Arts aussi... Finalement on va vraiment avoir besoin des micros-copter urbains. 🚁

However, please note that for now, you'll need to show a bit of patience while the structure takes shape. And you especially need to be a little resourceful if you live nearby, as the bridge will be completely closed to both pedestrians and cyclists as well as drivers for the entire duration of the installation. And for drivers, the restrictions will last throughout the entire lifespan of the artwork, which is until June 28th (or even longer depending on the dismantling). This situation might be a bit tricky for some, especially since the Pont des Arts has also closed its doors. But in either case, rest assured, it’s all for a good cause !
