Could 2026 be the year of all records? It's quite possible! This Monday, June 22, Météo-France announced that it has placed 54 French departments under a red heatwave alert for Tuesday, June 23 — the highest alert level — while 35 are under an orange alert. The reason? Temperatures soaring above 40°C in much of the Hexagon, with some areas even reaching 42°C in the Vienne. Currently, this alert is valid for Tuesday, June 23, and it is also possible for Wednesday, June 24 in certain departments currently on orange alert , says the meteorological organization.

One million euros unlocked to equip exam centers
Never before has France experienced so many departments under red alert. In total, 39 million French people are affected by the heatwave. As a result, various measures are being implemented. In Île-de-France, the SNCF plans to cancel 10% of its trains — to limit the risks of air conditioning failures and disruptions caused by rail expansion under the scorching heat. A one million euro aid will be exceptionally unlocked by the Île-de-France region to " ...funding the purchase of misting systems, fans and any other cooling equipment needed to protect high school students and staff during heat waves», says the region.
Safety guidelines to protect yourself and your loved ones
As a reminder, in case of extreme heat, it's essential to drink water regularly, eat enough, cool your body down, and keep ventilated. It's best to avoid physical exertion and stay in cool, air-conditioned places throughout the day. People with disabilities, the elderly, and children are the most vulnerable. If in doubt or feeling unwell,t, contact your doctor or call 15.
