The announcement came this weekend: the cult show hosted by the great Stéphane Bern, the Favorite Village of the French, is making a return in 2025, and this year, it’s the village of Rochefort-en-Yvelines, a historical gem nestled in the heart of the Haute Vallée de Chevreuse, that will proudly represent the Île-de-France region. It’s a significant challenge for this small community of just 950 residents, which attracts numerous enthusiastic visitors each year, eager to explore its medieval remains.
A medieval treasure in the heart of Yvelines
Located on the edge of the Rambouillet forest, Rochefort-en-Yvelines is the third municipality in Yvelines competing for the Favorite Village of the French, following Montchauvet in 2017 and Montfort l’Amaury in 2020. The village owes its name to its location at the foot of a rocky hill, and g>three charming ancient castles : the founding fortress castle, built by Gui Le Rouge in the 11th century next to a church, whose remnants can be visited today ; the castle of Louis XIII ; and the sublime castle of Porgès, a masterful creation by a wealthy diamond merchant who wanted to impress his wife.
In addition to these heritage buildings, actu78 reminds us that Rochefort-en-Yvelines exudes medieval charm, with its pretty cobblestone streets adorned with blooming roses leading to the town hall, as well as its former bailiwick which served as a court and prison in the 18th century, where four period cells are open for all curious visitors eager to explore historical curiosities.

A First Victory for Île-de-France?
The France Télévisions teams will be visiting the locations in spring to film a presentation video – about 8 minutes long – which will be aired during the grand finale, hosted by Stéphane Bern next July on France 3. On this occasion, we hope that Rochefort-en-Yvelines will claim the top spot, marking a possible first victory for Île-de-France since the show's launch in 2012.

The 14 exceptional villages in the running will be judged on their heritage, gastronomy, craftsmanship, and art of living. With an audience ranging from 2 to 2.5 million viewers, this competition has become a prestigious label. But to hope to win the title, Rochefort-en-Yveline needs the support of all the Franciliens and lovers of their heritage. From February 17 to March 7, everyone can vote online or by phone to shine a light on this medieval treasure at the top of the ranking. So, are you ready to lift Rochefort-en-Yveline to the top of the podium?
