Intangible heritage encompasses all the peculiarities and traditions of a culture that UNESCO wants to recognize and promote. There are several categories in which these traditions can be found: oral practices, performing arts, social practices, rituals and festive events, practices related to nature, and knowledge regarding crafts and craftsmanship.

Paris Roofs as a Craftsmanship Practice

Even today, painters, photographers, and even stage directors draw inspiration from them. Our beautiful zinc roofs, which arrived in the 19th century during Baron Haussmann's major urban renovation projects, have become an institution in Paris. Naturally, they have had to be restored numerous times, and it is this expertise that we want to reward: roofers who specialize in zinc are the only ones who know how to restore and build our famous roofs. Roselyne Bachelot will decide whether they deserve to be labeled.

The baguette could also represent our craftsmanship

The baguette is definitely in the race alongside the roofs of Paris to represent our cultural heritage. The baguette has hundreds of years of craftsmanship and, above all, tradition: we all love and cherish it. Many wonder why it is not already part of UNESCO's intangible heritage, some will say it's because of French gastronomy, already very present...

An unknown contender is also vying for this prestigious label: the Biou d'Arbois wine festival. Taking place every year in the Jura region, it would represent a French wine tradition. Now we just have to wait and see which candidate Roselyne Bachelot will choose in March to represent in 2022!
