Launched just over a month ago, the Instagram account "Let’s Declutter Paris" has a super simple concept: to point out furniture and decorative items found on the streets of the capital, so that everyone can help themselves for free while also helping to tidy up the Parisian landscape a bit.

It's no secret that Paris is not known for being a clean city. With overflowing trash cans, cigarette butts, wild waste — 30,000 tons collected every year! — and bulk items scattered about, it’s not the most inviting sight. Yet, some people are taking steps (in their own way) to try to improve the situation and help everyone furnish their apartments at low cost.


A Concept That Charms

It was in Montreal, where she lived for a few months before returning to the capital, that Julie, 23, came up with the idea to start this unique Instagram account. Indeed, according to her words reported by ...RCSCZVY.php?ts=1780995835278" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Le Parisien, over there, it's commonplace to see furniture ads on social media, allowing those who want to give a second life to these items that are often headed for the dump.

Without wasting any time, she launched at the end of April « Désemcombrons Paris » (@desencombrons.paris), and clearly the concept is resonating, as the account now has over 2100 followers. The content is made up of super simple posts: a photo or a short video of the item, along with a caption specifying its location: « pretty wooden bench spotted at 33 rue de Surène, 75008, at 8:10 AM on 07/05/2026», «pretty sofas seen at 7 rue Erlanger, 75016, at 5:45 PM on 19/05/2026».


A project in development

At a time when inflation is increasingly affecting the everyday lives of the French, and where second-hand is becoming a necessity for budget reasons.

And good news, you can actually participate in this concept by sending your finds via DM to the account, so that their locations can be shared later. However, be careful, for hygiene reasons, there’s no need to share the mattresses, which are unfortunately everywhere in the capital. If you need a lovely table or a desk chair, now you know how to score one without spending a dime. Just show some patience and a bit of responsiveness!
