Exhibitions, evenings out, sports classes, concerts, and even film screenings: this new third place is well on its way to becoming the trendiest spot of the summer in Paris. So even though we will miss the Saint-Lazare chapel when it closes its doors to complete renovations at the end of the season, that’s no reason to let such opportunities slip by.
A cultural, inclusive, and free program
Open since Thursday, June 11, the Saint-Lazare chapel is about to become our favorite summer hangout. With classes of yoga, guided tours of the chapel, live concerts, exhibitions, independent film screenings, meditation sessions, and DJ sets, we haven't seen such a varied lineup in a long time! All these activities are free and will help fine-tune the space for its grand opening next year. In short, we’re witnessing the blossoming of a new engaged third place in the 10th arrondissement!

A place rich in history
But before becoming a space focused on culture and inclusion, the chapel has experienced many other lives. Located in the former Saint-Lazare enclosure, which was used to isolate and care for those suffering from leprosy in the Middle Ages, it later became a larger prison.
a women's prison in the 19th century. It was in this context that this magnificent chapel was built, before being desecrated in the 1960s. Listed as a historical monument in 2005 and a winner of the participatory budget of the City of Paris in 2016, this place reopened its doors on June 11 after more than 20 years hidden away from view and renovations costing over €1,000,000.
A temporary project, looking towards the future
Unfortunately, after this summer of excitement, the Saint-Lazare chapel will close its doors again at the end of September to complete its renovations before permanently reopening in 2027. Ultimately, this place will host a friendly community café offering affordable meal options, as well as a solidarity grocery store that will provide gardening and cooking activities. There will also be co-working spaces available for local associations, giving them a welcoming place but also opportunities to connect and collaborate.
