Here it is, the time for spring walks and trips in nature. Want to discover a new flowery spot for the beautiful days? Just hop on the next RER B train, heading to L'Haÿ-les-Roses to explore the Roseraie du Val-de-Marne. Created in the late 19th century, it is the oldest in the world and houses nearly 11,000 rose bushes that offer us a wonderful, colorful, and fragrant spectacle with each bloom. A garden of Eden in L'Haÿ-les-Roses Certified as the "Conservatory of Specialized Plant Collections," listed in the inventory of historical monuments, labeled as a "Remarkable Garden"... No doubt, the Roseraie du Val-de-Marne has something to offer to all walkers and flower enthusiasts. Here we find the largest collection of ancient roses in the world with almost 2,900 species and varieties. A true Garden of Eden on 1.5 hectares of land, all nestled in a large park of over 14 hectares, beautifully landscaped, for incredible green walks on sunny days.

Ode to the Rose

Behind this beautiful floral project, we find Jules Gravereaux, a wealthy botanist and passionate about roses (of course). He started his collection towards the end of the 19th century, carefully studied and experimented with all kinds of hybridizations. In 1899, as his collection grew to more than 1,600 species and varieties, he called upon the architect and landscaper Édouard Andrée (the one who designed the Luxembourg Gardens) to take care of staging what became the first rose garden in the world. An ode to the rose in a French-style garden that, centuries later, will welcome all those in search of greenery.
