Saint-Germain-des-Prés is becoming the most stylish spot on Rue Guillaume Apollinaire. A cinema for enthusiasts, those seeking culture, or simply the curious: we are witnessing the rebirth of one of the monuments of Parisian cinema.

More than a cinema, a meeting place

In an industry undergoing transformation, Saint-Germain-des-Prés chooses to swim against the tide. While streaming platforms are gaining ground and audiences are tempted by the comfort of staying at home, this venue decides to offer a unique experience. People don’t just go to Saint-Germain to watch a movie. They go to debate in the speakeasy after the show, to meet filmmakers, attend conferences, or enjoy retrospectives and festival screenings.

As for the film selection, it will be handled by the cinema director herself. On the schedule: recent films, impenetrable classics, daring premieres, and even lesser-known auteur films... Saint Germain des Prés has plenty of surprises in store to refresh our cinematic knowledge.

A Room Full of History

Opened since 1969, the Saint-Germain-des-Prés has welcomed hundreds of iconic filmmakers and actors. Initially called Bilboquet, the cinema later became the Olympic Saint-Germain, then Le Beau Regard, before changing names once more to Étoile Saint-Germain-des-Prés, finally settling on Silencio des Prés.

Over the years, as the name changed, the cinema gradually transformed its purpose. Originally, it showcased only auteur films. It even hosted screenings of works by Françoise Truffaut and Éric Rohmer. Later on, Catherine Deneuve would mention it as one of her favorite Parisian theaters. But over time, this venue became a spot for events, featuring private screenings and special evenings, before it would close at the dawn of 2025.

Luckily, this establishment has been taken over with the goal of becoming the go-to place for the greatest cinephiles in the capital. And the cherry on top is that ticket prices don't exceed €11!
