When we talk about Spain, we think of Madrid and Plaza Mayor, Barcelona and the Sagrada Família, Seville and its Royal Alcazar, or the islands of Ibiza or Palma de Mallorca for their beautiful beaches and lively parties. But the little green paradise of Asturias, less than 3 hours from Paris, is much less known. This mountainous principality begins with the seven biosphere reserves and six natural parks recognized by UNESCO.

A true paradise for sports enthusiasts and a special dedication to hikers, this Spanish Eden offers numerous routes for all levels. Although some paths are accessible by car, walking remains the best way to discover all the wonders that Asturias hides. Pedaling in the heart of nature, following the trails of fossilized stones, searching for bears, visiting local sheepfolds, or even collecting plants used in cooking workshops during excursions, here's a taste of what to expect.

You are waiting for it.

If you're more into "sea, sex & sun", you won't be disappointed with the 410 km of coastline dotted with 18 absolutely charming villages. Cudillero and Luarca are the two highlights not to be missed. The first one hidden in a cove, the second one boasting a beautiful old town, you can enjoy breathtaking panoramic views. This coastline, the best-preserved in Spain, also offers two absolutely sublime nature reserves: Villaviciosa and Barayo. Dunes, rocky peaks, unique plant species... a plethora of natural and pure beauties.

Some cities are worth a visit on their own. This is especially the case with Avilés, Gijón, and Oviedo, the capital. Just about thirty minutes apart from each other, these three cities each have their own history. Avilés for its medieval origin and its historical center, Gijón for its walk along the Cantabrian Sea promenade and its aquarium, and Oviedo for its cathedral housing the Holy Chamber and San Francisco Park.

The local gastronomy is also a great highlight of this green paradise. As a specialty, you can try a fabada (a dish made with white beans, cured meats, and spices), a cachopo (breaded and stuffed veal or beef fillets with raw ham and cheese), a line-caught hake or the local rice pudding for dessert. Of course, seafood products are also renowned in the region. Oh, I almost forgot, you will find over fifty varieties of cheese... What do we drink? Mostly cider.

Just a few hours from the French border, this green paradise is a true source of well-being for anyone looking for nature and authenticity.
