We were charmed this summer by its open-air cinema in the Cour carrée, and now the Louvre is back at it, offering a new cinematic experience that’s truly unique. For its retrospective on the painter Jacques-Louis David — a leading figure in neoclassicism known for his representation of historical scenes — the famous museum will host eleven screenings directly connected to two major moments in French history: the French Revolution and the First Empire.

Between Films and Discussions
The event takes place at the Louvre Auditorium, starting from October 17, 2025, for the film festival, debates, and meetings titled « From David to Kubrick: Revolution and Empire in Cinema ». A large part of the screenings will be accompanied by a presentation from a guest, whether they are a filmmaker, historian, or even a film set designer. Some of the films will also be followed by a discussion to dive deeper into the work just seen and question the representation of History in the 7th Art.
