Flowers, pink, and more pink… It’s (almost) spring in Paris, so it’s time to go admire the beautiful cherry blossoms blooming in the City of Light. But for those who want to avoid the crowds at the domain of Sceaux (and the new reservation headaches), a little hidden square right in the heart of the literary district is waiting for you to enjoy a peaceful moment with a small group.

The Cherry Blossoms of Saint-Germain-des-Prés

A quaint garden of about 640 m², tucked away behind the Institut de France, the square Gabriel Piérné is a true oasis of tranquility as soon as the spring sun peeks out. And for good reason: here, in the vibrant Saint-Germain-des-Prés neighborhood – one of the liveliest areas of the Left Bank – you can witness a stunning ephemeral display. This cool enclave is home to lovely cherry trees, which in March, when the

Spring is starting to settle in, dressing itself in hundreds of pink and white flowers. Before our eyes, nature awakens after a long winter season, a symbol of renewal. Completing this theater dressed in pink: vibrant magnolias and rhododendrons.

Between Flowers and Culture

In addition to providing us with a lovely reading spot away from prying eyes, this almost secret garden also holds some delightful historical and artistic anecdotes that resonate with its neighborhood. First of all, its name pays tribute to the composer and conductor Gabriel Pierné, a prominent figure in French classical music. Then there’s the central water feature, the Fontaine des Carmes, designed by Alexandre-Évariste Fragonard, along with the bronze statue Carolina by Marcello Tommasi. These little cultural touches beautifully enhance the floral scene.
