The Editor

Former thermal power plant, film studio created by Luc Besson, which has hosted productions like The Bureau of Legends and Emily in Paris, a huge canteen for athletes during the 2024 Paris Olympics, the Cité du Cinéma has already experienced a thousand lives. And it shouldn't stop there, as it has partially closed its doors for a transformation that is sure to delight all the locals and, more broadly, all the Parisians.

A Major Transformation

Last September, the Cité du Cinéma transformed into a dancefloor ...

giant for one evening, to host FINAL CUT, a unique celebration marking the end of an era. Since then, while it continues to welcome a few lucky ones for special events, it has also started to change its face behind the scenes. And it must be said that the project of metamorphosis, led by the group Seine et Watss, is truly impressive.

The goal of this project is simple: to make this place, which is often seen as too closed off to Parisians, more welcoming by offering them a new center dedicated to events and cultural activities. On the agenda: developing the existing 650 m² cinema hall, as well as adding exhibition spaces focused particularly on the history of cinema, a 300-seat hall for stand-up performances, the “Club,” and a huge food court with a terrace and a view of the Seine.

A temple of the 7th art that stays vibrant

In addition to these exciting new projects that make our mouths water, the Cité du Cinéma will continue to host the facilities of the Louis-Lumière school, a national higher cinema institution, as well as many filming studios. This enhancement...A major management shift will, however, give the spotlight back to the general public, with over 300,000 annual visitors. At the crossroads of the arts, a dance platform is also expected to emerge, offering audiences performances imagined by Benjamin Millepied, who will be in residence at this venue for a few months. Whatever happens, we’ll have to wait until May 2026 to discover all these wonderful projects.
