Every year, it's the must-see event of May! For one magical evening, European Night of Museums sets the rhythm in various cultural establishments across France. Museums, libraries, monuments, and even castles extend their usual opening hours and are open to the public for free. For this 21st edition, the date is set for Saturday, May 17, 2025. To celebrate, we've selected 5 Ile-de-France castles for you to discover at the start of the evening or once night falls. Enjoy your visit!


Château des Sceaux

This is a fantastic opportunity to come and explore the Château des Sceaux, beautifully illuminated! From 7:30 PM to 11 PM, you can wander freely through this historically rich residence and discover the museum's collections. The Pavilion of Dawn will be open from 7:30 PM to 9 PM. Hurry up!

Château de Fontainebleau

It hardly needs an introduction, it’s that obvious. The Château de Fontainebleau, built between the 12th and 19th centuries, is one of the most famous royal residences in France and its history. With its 1,500 rooms, it is filled with treasures and wonders to discover within, along with a stunning 130-hectare garden. If you haven’t visited yet, the European Night of Museums is the perfect opportunity to do so, and if you’re already familiar with the place, there’s no reason to miss out!

Château Buchillot 

Direction Boulogne-Billancourt Where the 18th-century Château Buchillot stands tall. It’s in this lovely building that the Paul Belmondo Museum has found its home, inviting visitors to explore an important collection of sculptures, medals, and drawings that once belonged to the famous sculptor. The Night of Museums will be a wonderful opportunity to freely visit the museum and step inside this charming château. In the gardens, a brass quintet from the Boulogne Conservatory will put on a concert.

Château de Vincennes

Just like the Fontainebleau Castle, Château de Vincennes is one of those must-visit landmarks at least once while in Île-de-France. This fortress from the medieval era is easily accessible via metro line 1 or the RER A. So no more excuses for not visiting it!

Château de Champs-sur-Marne
