The big question that was still hanging in the air: when will the towers of the Notre-Dame Cathedral be open to the public again? The answer has finally arrived, and we’ll have to wait until summer 2025 to visit them. Some unexpected work still needs to be done, including the replacement of « the oak belfry base » in the south tower, which is affected by « invisible pathologies discovered in 2024 », reported the public establishment overseeing the restoration project to AFP on Thursday, February 20.

A new visitor experience coming in summer 2025

While the rest of the cathedral will be open to the public again starting from its inauguration on December 7 and 8, 2024, we'll still have to wait a few more months to (re)discover its towers. Additional work will be done on the south tower, while the north tower, which was significantly damaged in the 2019 fire, has been restored between 2023 and 2024.

This summer, visitors will get to enjoy the “layout of a brand new visitor path” as explained by Marie Lavandier, president of the Centre des monuments nationaux (CMN) to AFP. This new experience will offer an “immersive sound environment” and access to “new and unique viewpoints of the spire and framework” and will allow visitors to “get up close and personal with the gargoyles on the south tower terrace at a height of 69 meters.” A total of 400,000 annual visitors will be welcomed in the cathedral towers, which have already hosted nearly two million people.three months after its reopening.

An increase from the original price

A complete rediscovery of this legendary building, which will come at a certain price. Before the devastating fire, it cost to access the towers. Starting from the summer of 2025, an increase of six euros will be applied, bringing the total to sixteen euros per ticket. Visitors under 25 will enjoy free admission.
