3 movie castles to visit this weekend!

How about treating ourselves to a little royal getaway this weekend? Let's head to three charming castles in the Île-de-France region that have been the stunning backdrops for many films.

For the European Night of Museums, or simply for the joy of indulging in a royal getaway, the castles are must-visit residences in Île-de-France. Many of them have even served as filming locations for films that have become cinema classics. Whether you're a seasoned cinephile or just a curious visitor, here are three castles to discover during the May holidays, where you can walk in the footsteps of your favorite actors.


The Palace of Versailles

Let's start with the obvious. The Palace of Versailles is undoubtedly one of the most famous castles.

in the world. Immense and sumptuous, this royal residence and its estate have been the setting for over a thousand film shoots since the early 20th century. Among them, we find titles like The King Is Dancing by Gérard Corbiau, Marie Antoinette by Sofia Coppola, Farewell My Queen by Benoît Jacquot, and A People and Their King by Pierre Schoeller – featuring notable actors like Adèle Haenel, Gaspard Ulliel, and Laurent Laffite, who have taken over the Hall of Mirrors, the King's Grand Apartment, and even the Royal Chapel.

Château de Courances 

Located in Essonne, this castle sits proudly in the heart of a 75-hectare estate, making it a true little piece of paradise with invaluable riches. Chinese Zodiac featuring Jackie Chan, Les garçons et Guillaume at the table by Guillaume Gallienne, Fleurs et brume by Ding Yang Guo and Le sens de la fête by Éric Tolédano and Olivier Nakache have notably been filmed here.

Le château de Monte-Cristo 

Ce n'est pas à proprement parler le château où le film Le Comte de Monte-Cristo de Matthieu Delaporte et Alexandre De La Patellière a été tourné. En revanche, le Château de Monte-Cristo, situé à Port-Marly, est le château original qu'Alexandre Dumas a fait bâtir au XIXe siècle, alors qu'il était au sommet de la gloire suite à la publication de ses romans Les Trois Mousquetaires et Le Comte de Monte-Cristo. Plusieurs châteaux répartis aux quatre coins de la France et de l'Île-de-France ont cependant été utilisés pour le tournage du long-métrage avec Pierre Niney et Anaïs Demoustier : le Château d’Aubiry dans les Pyrénées-Orientales, mais aussi le Château privé de Dampont dans le Val-d'Oise et le Château de Ferrières en Seine-et-Marne, consacré aux événéments et cérémonies privés.
