The Palace of Versailles, a true gem of the Île-de-France heritage, is full of surprises, with hidden spots that the general public doesn't know about, and rooms that aren't usually open to visitors. Among them is the lower part of the Royal Chapel. Until September 30th, this normally closed space will be exceptionally open for visits. It's a unique opportunity you definitely don’t want to miss!

A Place of Beauty and History

It was in 1710, at the end of Louis XIV's reign, that the construction of the Royal Chapel was completed. Built for the kings of France, it once hosted royal masses. It beautifully mixes Gothic influences, baroque style, tall columns, and large stained glass windows. But the highlight is certainly its vaulted ceiling, adorned with paintings depicting the Holy Trinity. Featuring God the Father in His Glory by Antoine Coypel, The Resurrection by Charles de La Fosse, and The Descent of the Holy Spirit by Jean Jouvenet, this ceiling shines as a true gem that you can admire during your visit this summer.

A Place of Wonder

While the ceiling is truly the must-see, the Royal Chapel also features a fabulous organ crafted by Julien Tribuot and Robert Clicquot, the famous royal organ builder. Although it has undergone numerous repairs and modifications since then, it remains a unique instrument that is particularly grandiose.
