Tired of the Fontainebleau forest and the banks of the Seine? No worries, we’ve found a (really) special stroll in the Rentilly Cultural Park – Michel Chartier. Here, no dusty old stones: we come to marvel at a monumental open-air artwork.
An Illusion by Veilhan
Just arrived from the Torcy train station, and it's a total shock. In front of you stands the most original castle in Seine-et-Marne. Imagined by artist Xavier Veilhan, in collaboration with architects Bona-Lemercier and scenographer Alexis Bertrand, this building is completely covered in mirrored stainless steel plates, creating a spectacle that will leave you speechless. Architecture and nature are one in an installation that evolves with its environment and the weather.
But the journey doesn't stop there. Inside, the castle has reinvented itself as a contemporary art center.in the foreground. You can access it for free to discover some sharp and varied exhibitions within streamlined structures that provide magnificent views of the estate. It's the perfect combo for treating yourself to a dose of culture without the sometimes overly serious atmosphere of Parisian galleries.

54 hectares of greenery and surprises galore
After the artistic and visual delight that the Rentilly estate offers, it’s time to totally escape into the huge 54-hectare park surrounding the château. The estate consists of three areas, each with its own distinct vibe: a majestic French-style park complete with its share of ponds, a romantic English garden, and a completely wild forest. Whether you’re up for a hike, a picnic, a break from the hustle and bustle of Paris, or even just getting closer to nature among its giant sequoias and century-old trees, you won’t find a better spot!
As you wander, you’ll discover other quirky places like a fully restored orangerie and even Turkish baths. The more adventurous can even continue on the hiking trail to the Gondoire Valley! So, whether you’re curious, passionate about art, or just looking for a peaceful retreat, this place has something for everyone!
