The Editor

The cafés in Paris are a true institution. The same goes for the bookstores. So, naturally, when it comes to combining two of life's greatest pleasures, reading and coffee, it’s not surprising that the shopkeepers of the capital have been particularly talented. This is at least what the latest ranking from 1000librairies.com suggests, which lists the most beautiful establishments in the world, including those in the City of Light.

A success from A to Z

The first French address in the ranking is on the second step of the podium, where we find the tea room.

Used Book Café at Merci. A timeless spot, recognizable by its massive libraries filled with thousands of second-hand books of every kind. And just as the name suggests, they are all second-hand, helping you feel good while also taking care of the planet.

In addition to hundreds of millions of pages, the Used Book Café also offers a delicious dining experience, thanks to affordable seasonal recipes that are especially comforting. From breakfast to snack time, it's the perfect spot for a serene and soothing break amidst the books that cover the walls. Enjoy avocado toasts, scrumptious focaccia, or even tasty desserts, not to mention the warm drinks. Choose your favorite before settling into this ultra-cozy atmosphere to peruse a good book.

Paris, the capital of café-bookstores

Although the City of Light sadly doesn't take home the gold medal — awarded to Minoa Pera in Turkey — it certainly has no reason to be ashamed of its position, as it proudly holds a beautiful silver medal.

also the 3rd and 4th places in this top 10. Right behind the Used Book Café, we find the Halle Saint-Pierre, which stands out with its specialized bookstore in art books. It’s followed by the incredible barge L’Eau et les Rêves, moored at the canal de l’Ourcq. A suspended place, where you'll find books about plants and botany, and an absolutely delicious café-restaurant. And if you want to discover the full top 10 to plan a little weekend dedicated to reading, it’s right here !
