Do you dream of visiting a genuine Christmas market, 100% authentic, like the ones you might find in Strasbourg? Dear Parisian friends, there's no need to travel far or take that 1 hour 45 minute train ride to the Christmas capital: it's coming to you! As tradition has it for 42 years now, the Alsatian Christmas market is making its grand return to Paris, right at the Gare de l’Est, from November 29 to December 15.

The Alsatian Gastronomy in the Spotlight

Paris has understood it well; there’s nothing like a Christmas market filled with bredele (Christmas cookies), kougelhopf, mulled wine, pretzels, and for the more adventurous, foie gras, sauerkraut, crémant, Gewurztraminer, or even schnaps (fruit brandy). For the occasion, about fifteen Alsatian producers will come to the capital to share and let you taste their products, including Maison Geismar, Distillery Meyer, Pâtisserie Oster, and the must-try Fortwenger and the Alsatian Biscuit House.

A market to celebrate regional traditions

Gastronomic specialties won’t be the only things in the spotlight. For the first time, three tourist offices – Alsace Verte, Mulhouse, and Sélestat Haut-Koenigsbourg – will also be present to promote the various markets in the region and Alsatian traditions. From December 5 to 8, the Kelsch from Alsace, a textile usually made of linen often featuring checks or stripes, will be celebrated. It’s the perfect chance to buy a tablecloth, cushions, or any textile item to brighten up your home.

From December 2 to 4, the booth from the Tourist Offices will showcase the wide variety of bredele crafted by the House of Alsace Bread. On December 4, Mr. Sappinus, a lively character, will...color, will come to share the most beautiful anecdotes about Alsatian traditions and the history of the Christmas tree, for both young and old. In short, indulge yourself, and let the magic of Alsatian Christmases work its wonders; we guarantee that for a few hours, you’ll forget about Paris. Scheeni Wiehnachta! (Merry Christmas)
