A station closed to the public since 1939
Today, Saint-Martin has become one of the largest ghost stations in Paris. It used to be a major point of passage for the RATP network. Served by lines 8 and 9, the station was taken out of service at the beginning of World War II, among the 173 closed stations at that time.
Most of them have reopened to the public today, but that's not the case for our dear Saint-Martin. In fact, it's only 100 meters away from its neighbor Strasbourg-Saint-Denis. It has been permanently closed to passengers since then.
The st.The Saint-Martin station has been visited and decorated many times by the street artists of the capital. It also houses a day shelter for homeless people managed by the Salvation Army and has already been used as a filming location for advertising campaigns by Nike, Nissan, and Microsoft. Until 2021, the station was occupied by the maintenance department of the RATP, responsible for inspecting nighttime art structures. The teams stored their equipment there and held team meetings.
