Encouraging young parents to adopt more eco-friendly and safer habits for the health of their babies is the new mission set by the City of Paris. As revealed by Le Parisien, starting from mid-2025, the City Hall will provide all new and expectant parents with a free kit of nursery items that contain no harmful materials.

Baby care items and suitable cosmetics for newborns

Inside this fabric bag branded with the City of Paris logo, you'll find a wooden rattle...

, reusable wipes, a stainless steel cup designed to replace those, often used, plastic ones, baby-friendly organic soap, baking soda, and soap flakes to make your own laundry detergent. To get it, « no income conditions » will be required. These kits intended for the families of 21,000 babies born on average each year in the capital will be available at maternal and child protection centers (PMI).

Different measures taken to support families

As part of the 45 measures in the Parisian Environmental Health Plan, this initiative aims to protect the health of young Parisians. " We discover new harmful effects that these pollutants can have on our health every month," emphasizes Anne-Claire Boux, the ecologist deputy in charge of Health with Le Parisien. Phthalates, Bisphenol A, lead… These pollutants and endocrine disruptors have been found repeatedly in plastic toys, for example. In addition to the implementation of these kits, workshops will be organized to help young parents learn more about the “tips to protect their baby's health against pollution », the elected official specifies in a video posted on X. This plan will be submitted for a vote at the Paris Council on Tuesday, November 19, in the afternoon.
