The 2023/2024 season has already been incredibly fruitful for the City of Paris with the creation of numerous green spaces, like the first urban forest of Paris at Place de Catalogne in the 14th arrondissement, the inauguration of the Bois de Charonne, and the opening of the vast Aretha Franklin Garden next to the Porte de Bagnolet. And it seems the city isn’t stopping there, as over 100 new inner-city spaces are set to undergo transformation starting this winter!
Always More Green
Since 2020, the City of Paris has welcomed over 113,000 trees, including 45,000 last year!
last. And given the number of projects still pending, it's clear that this is just the beginning, as the goal is to reach 170,000 plantings by 2026. To achieve this, 15,000 trees are set to be planted during the winter season of 2024/2025.Avant / Après Rue Mademoiselle dans le 15ème arrondissement de Paris. On the agenda: thousands of trees spread throughout and around the capital, with 1,000 plants in the streets, over 6,700 on the banks of the ring road, and 5,300 in the woods. It’s an ambitious plan that will touch 120 streets and squares of the City of Light, which we've decided to rename the Green City, given how quickly it might change its colors. And that’s a great thing!
Fighting the heat at all costs
Behind these new installations, there’s a very simple goal: to create as many cool islands as possible to combat the extremely high temperatures that the capital may unfortunately face in a few years. To achieve this, the objective...The goals are simple: expand the shaded areas as much as possible to reach 25% of ground cover within a year, and reduce the temperature thanks to the many trees (up to -4° according to experts).

To keep a great environmental momentum, the City carefully selected the tree species to be planted throughout the winding streets of Paris. They picked Mediterranean Hackberries, Byzantine Sorbs, and Montpellier Maples, all chosen for their proven resistance to climate change, as well as their light and water needs…
True green jewels
What the City aims to create are genuine little urban forests. A prime example of this massive greening effort is Charles-Moureu Street, in the 13th arrondissement, where 58% of the area will soon be covered with greenery, turning it into a delightful oasis.
a true garden street. 32 trees and over 250 shrubs will be planted there, covering a total of 3000 m².Oui c'est bien à Paris (pas à Neuilly ou en province).

Mais dans le 9e, le seul arrt qui gère bien la végétalisation. Même politique, même budget, mais des travaux bien menés et un vrai résultat.

In parallel, 5 new green spaces are also about to come to life. The Place de l'Hôtel de Ville is set to be transformed into a true green paradise, along with Place Saint-Gervais, which will honor the victims of the November 13, 2015 attacks, and also the Gabriel-Lamé space in the 12th, the Laure-Albin-Guillot garden in the 13th, and the Suzanne-Lenglen park in the 15th. We can't wait!
