The end of the Universe. Presented this way, it sounds pretty scary and quite anxiety-inducing while the summer warmth is in full swing. But don’t panic! While scientists seem to have figured out a date for when our Universe will collapse in on itself, we still have a ton of years to go — as you can see, it’s better to laugh than to cry about it!

A predicted end in about 20 billion years
Can we date the end of the world? That’s what scientists seem to be able to affirm. A new study published by researchers from Cornell University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, and other prestigious institutions, reported by the media Science alert, has established a date when the Universe will collapse, in other words, the “Big Crunch.” This famous moment when the universe will fade away is predicted to happen in about 20 billion years. As the Universe is currently 13.8 billion years old, it would then reach 33.3 billion years.ards from here.

Is dark energy to blame?
No, the Universe will not continue to expand forever as commonly believed. To reach such conclusions, scientists have looked into the role of dark energy, which makes up 72% of...The Universe consists of 4.6% atoms and 23% dark matter. They have especially realized that this force might not be the constant that keeps a stable pressure and allows space to expand, but instead, it could be dynamical and lead to the collapse of the Universe. So, while these predictions seem particularly precise, it is important to point out that they come with a large uncertainty and are just a starting point for more scientific research.
